What is SEO? and why does my business need it – Ok so this is a big question and I understand why it’s the first one on the list.
First of all, let’s answer the first part of the question – “What is SEO?” SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. SEO experts help businesses to increase their exposure to search engines like Google, Bing, and Yahoo by making sure that their websites are designed in a way that makes it easy for search engine algorithms to read, interpret and understand your website.
This ultimately results in higher rankings on search engines. Which automatically leads to more visits as the number of search engine visitors to your website. Which then leads to more Leads, conversions, and sales. This is because Organic Search Traffic is far higher than other forms of website traffic coming directly to the business.
SEO involves techniques like keyword research, website development, and on-page optimization for better visibility in search engines which results in higher volumes of organic traffic. Which, in turn, increases leads that can be much more easily converted into sales.
Therefore, it is also a very cost-effective medium to generate business leads. Against other forms of lead generation like Pay Per Click Ads or Social Media Ads, as you are not paying for leads
Top ranking websites get more links from other domains which increases their credibility in the eyes of web users and search engines. Making them less likely to lose brand credibility or rankings. As being at the top of Google for high valued keywords builds both brand awareness and brand stability. Hoping this answer the question “What is SEO?”
Why do I need to have a website if I can just create content through social media channels like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram?
I get asked this question all the time and it shows how little people understand about digital marketing, let me explain:
A sales funnel is made up of several steps that lead from awareness to purchase.
The steps are as follows:
5) Trial and Adoption
Awareness is the very first step where people become aware of your brand and what you do.
This can happen through many different channels like TV advertisements, Radio Advertisements, Word of Mouth, Billboards, or even through online sources.
Once someone has become aware of your brand, they need to find out more about you and that is what digital marketing channels are for. Social Media Channels like Facebook and Twitter are great because they have already established an audience for your business which either means that you can get right in front of your target audience. Or that you already have a catchment area for your current audience to find you.
This is where a website with solid content comes in. As it’s this factor that turns Awareness into Inquiry by providing people with valuable information about the business or service, they are interested in.
Once someone has become aware and is interested, they either need to find out more or buy your product or service.
At the moment, this is usually done by salespeople or customer care agents leading potential customers through the sales funnel using a series of phone calls and/or physical visits.
This is where most business owners see as an opportunity for digital marketing; because they see how digital marketing channels like search engine optimization, social media promotion, and branding can be used to provide the same information as a salesperson would.
With one difference; it is done in an automated way at a low cost! The customer is no longer forced into calls and visits with possible high-pressure sales tactics that they may not be interested in.
Now the customer can research and evaluate the product or service to see if it fits their needs exactly or even have a look at your competitor’s products to discover why they are not going with you.
This allows the customer to see all there is on offer, giving them freedom of choice that may be missing through traditional sales channels.
How much does SEO cost per month or year?
The truth is there’s no standard pricing model that is used by all SEO firms, this means prices can widely range. It could cost you as little as $500 per month to as much as $5000 plus depending on the scope of work required.
A lot of SEO companies offer a monthly retainer product that remains the same over a 12-month period. Others offer a more product-style approach, breaking each component down into their parts and charging individually for each part. Known as Sprints. for instance; the on-site sprint can be $4000 and take 2 months to complete. But that is all you will get, the on-site work. Or they may see that your on-site SEO is fine and therefore you only need off-site work (link building) which may cost $6000 but last for 4 months.
I personally choose the monthly retainer approach, but with a twist. I ask my clients to pay monthly, but do not tie them into a 12 or 6-month contract. We have a month-to-month rolling contract, that if they are happy with the reports at the end of the month, then they carry on. That way, they only need to stay with our agency should they actually be getting results.

How long will it take before I start seeing results from my new SEO strategy?
While this can vary greatly from one business to the next, as well as a number of different factors, like competition levels and geographical location it’s generally accepted that you’ll start seeing some results after about 3-6 months and 6-12 months where you see real benefit. But it does all depend on a lot of factors.
Do you want local traffic and/or national traffic? How competitive is your industry? What keywords are best for your business? Are you interested in video marketing or guest posting. All these questions need to be answered first in order to know how your website will respond.
If you’re looking for sales now in search engine rankings, you’d be best to consider investing in PPC advertising instead. This will provide instant traffic and sales if done correctly. It can, however, be much more costly overall, as with each click you get you have to pay your Pay Per Click (PPC) provider, such as Google Ads.
How can I be sure that my new SEO agency is any good?
A lot of people have it in their minds that everyone is an expert at SEO nowadays – sadly that’s not true. You should look for relevant experience and expertise. SEO is not a quick fix solution; it takes time to be effective. You should find someone who has been in the business a while and can show you case studies of their previous work.
You need to see case studies and examples of traffic they have built up. Show how they helped give value to their clients, not just page rankings.
